I was very sad to hear of the passing of Major Mel Thompson. I was fortunate to have been a member of the cadets at Trinity when Mel first joined the school in 1982. I witnessed the incredible transformation of the CCF under his guidance. He was an exceptional leader with the unique ability to bring out the very best in each of us. I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him as I know many others are too. With my deepest sympathies. RIP Mel.
Mr Steve Lewis
It's more than thirty years since I left Trinity School, but memories of Mel endure for me, as I know they do for so many others who passed through the ranks of the CCF. He was, very simply, the best of us. Thank you Mel. RIP.

In Loving Memory of Major Mel Thompson I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Major Mel Thompson. He was more than just a mentor to me—he was a steady and inspiring presence during a formative period of my life when I was in real need of guidance and direction. At a time when I was still trying to find my place in the world, Major Thompson stepped in with patience, wisdom, and a quiet strength that made a lasting impact. He taught me the true meaning of respect, courage, grace, and leadership—not through grand gestures, but through the way he carried himself every day. His belief in discipline was matched only by his compassion and understanding, especially when I needed it most. His influence on my life at Trinity was profound. He didn’t just shape the student I was then; he helped shape the person I became. I will always be grateful for the time he gave, the lessons he shared, and the example he set. Major Thompson will be deeply missed—not only by those who knew him personally but by all who were touched by his quiet, unwavering presence. He was a tremendous human being and leaves behind a legacy of character and care that will not be forgotten. With heartfelt sympathy,
Mr Peter Boothby

Captain Thompson was one of the few people that I really respected and looked up to. He was a larger than life character and really made the CCF what it was. He was a truly decent man with a great sense of humour. He was definitely someone that you do not forget.
