Ms Dunkin was an inspiration to our daughter Isla at St Mary's. She taught her every year, kindling her love for English. Sophie is the reason that Isla chose to study English for A'level as she brought such passion to her lessons. She always had the longest queues at Parents Meetings as she gave as much time as was needed to her students and parents - we loved talking to her and hearing her enthusiastic feedback! She will be sorely missed but her spirit lives on in the hearts of her English students and I hope Isla will do her proud in her exam next year. Our thoughts are with your family, especially at this time of year, and we send you our love and best wishes, Annabel, Bruce, Isla and Douggie Campbell
Mr Bruce Campbell
We still can't think of the right words. A very special lady and friend who we will all miss very much. The Barnett family.

Mrs Anthea Griggs
As a family, we were shocked and enormously saddened by the sudden tragedy of Sophie’s passing. Whenever we met, usually at parent’s meetings or school events, Tara and I always admired Sophie’s passion for her subject and her infectious enthusiasm for passing on her love of literature and language to her pupils. We know Anna will miss being taught by her. Persuading young adults to shake free their wings, trust their instincts and soar is a great gift, which Sophie possessed. We send our deepest condolences and sympathy to her family. Andrew Dodd
Ms Tara Dodd

There's always one teacher that you will forever think of as the formative figure in your education. Someone who embodied everything it is to be a teacher - patience, curiosity, enthusiasm, and certainly in Ms Dunkin's case, a (wicked) sense of humour. For me that was Ms Dunkin. What an inspiring teacher, mentor and role-model she was to so many Calne girls. She taught me from my first through to my final year, bringing every text we studied to life with her passion and enthusiasm. I cannot imagine the agony those closest to her must be feeling, my deepest sympathies are with you at this time x
Miss Leonora Monson
Ms Dunkin was a brilliant teacher and person, and genuinely inspiring- she was one of the first ‘Ms’, rather than ‘Mrs’, that I ever met and I thought this was very cool at the time aged 12 and still do now. My heart goes out to her family and I am thinking of them.
Ms Eve Webster

We were so devastated as a whole family to learn of Sophie's death. She was an inspirational teacher for Iona, turning English into a subject she loves and excelled in, and asked to Eléa's tutor - who helped, supported, inspired and taught her so brilliantly. Our hearts go out to her family, who she talked of so lovingly as we got to know Sophie over the last eight years, and friends. She will be so sorely missed. With deepest condolences and love The Aylwins

I will really, really miss Ms Dunkin. Ms Dunkin taught me for just one year in lower 6 but in that time she became one of my most favourite people. Her quick wit and her love of one particular word in 'Atonement' I will never forget. Her passion for English taught me so much more than just about the subject. She taught me how to understand the messages in our language; about how to approach the things I love, that it's okay to show emotion and to question what we are told to accept. Her warmth and individual interest in my success (even when I got 3/15 in a Hamlet extract) not only increased my confidence in English but also taught me how important it is in life to always be kind. The impact of Ms Dunkin on me will be a lasting one; she and who she was, will be impossible to forget. -Ibby

To say that our knowledge of literature were on two different levels would only be a slight understatement soph,I even had to google the only poem that I remember from school because I had forgotten the words...’oh wet pet’.i have even had to use one of the words from it for my poem. Oh sis, I miss, X.

Sophie was a complete, and utterly brilliant, one-off. Owner of a razor-sharp intellect along with a large and generous heart, she entertained and educated in equal measure.
